An exercise physiologist is a nationally recognised allied health professional who is qualified to provide exercise rehabilitation for people with chronic and complex illness or injury.

You would book an appointment with an exercise physiologist for:

  • Safe and effective exercise prescription for managing chronic illness including diabetes, heart disease, asthma and obesity

  • Personalised exercise programs including onsite gym and home based activity options

  • Return to work, worker’s compensation and injury treatment programs

  • Lifestyle and behaviour modification

  • Chronic pain

  • Injury rehabilitation

  • Neurological rehabilitation

  • She Rides cycling instruction

  • Aquatic exercise therapy sessions.

How is an Exercise Physiologist different from a Personal Trainer?

An exercise physiologist is a nationally recognised allied health professional who is qualified to provide exercise rehabilitation for people with chronic and complex illness or injury. An exercise physiologist has attended university for 4 years and has a vast experience base in order to be accredited with Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA). General Practitioners can refer to an exercise physiologist under the national Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) program which will attract a medicare rebate. Further, most major health funds provide rebates for exercise physiology services.

We are very lucky to have Karen Radburn, an accredited Exercise Physiologist at Synergy Healthworks. Karen completed her Bachelor of Science in Human Movement at Charles Sturt University.

Karen comes to us with a wealth of experience both in private practice exercise physiology and University lecturing. Karen is a qualified 'Heart Moves' Examiner and 'She Rides' Instructor.

Karen's main focusses are lifestyle and behaviour modification, chronic pain and injury rehabilitation, chronic disease management (e.g. asthma, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease), work cover and DVA support, Women's Health, and sport specific training. Karen has a special interest in cycling and equestrian sports. You will often seen Karen cycling around the Wagga region with her husband and son.
